A WOMAN'S WORKSHOP FOR SELF-EXPRESSION
This body-voice workshop explores the impact of
media-derived definitions on women's identity—
Superwoman syndrome, body imaging, calorie watching,
forever young—commercially portrayed on television and
in print ads. Working within an interactive listening space,
we’ll use movement, breath work, voicing and journaling as
tools to both listen to each woman and hear ourselves freely
express, in our own voices, our own experiences.

CONTEMPORARY/MODERN LAB
This class will focus on finding freedom in
movement while expanding physical, expressive,
and technical ranges. Movement is release-based,
athletic, and organic, and designed to challenge
the vertical axis. Components of the class include
improvisation, contact, partnering, travelling passages,
and moments of supported, uncontrolled movement.

MODERN/JAZZ LAB
This class is an exploration of the connections between the
physical, emotional, and spiritual centers as expressed
through rhythm and musicality. A short warm-up, stretching the
body, will be followed by across-the-floor movement. A phrase
will be given, working with syncopation, rhythm and weight changes.

IMPROVISATION LAB
In this class we will work both with building physical awareness
and connection in our bodies and scores that develop
our improvisational listening and sourcing. Physically guided
warm-ups will lead into solo, duet, and group structures. Over time,
this work builds a strong, sensitive, and deeply aware mover.

TAP FUNDAMENTALS
This workshop will include two one-hour classes that
focus on the basics and rudiments of tap dance. Each class
will include a brief overview of the history and origins of
various steps, which will be followed with instruction for
proper execution and strong, clear articulation. It is hoped
that the workshop experience will encourage students to
further educate themselves about the art form, and therefore
help to preserve and perpetuate the art of rhythm tap dancing
for generations to come.
